So we have one month down in 2012 so far and it hasn’t been a good one for training for me. The beginning of the year started with me kicking my ottoman in my living room so hard that I had a severely bruised(if not broken) toe that caused me pain even to walk on for 2 weeks. This obviously cut in to my training as I wanted to rest it and have it heal ASAP. It did however kill my plans of doing the Puerto Rico 70.3 as I would want to be in half iron shape when I got there and I don’t think I can do it in only 2 months. It came as a big disappointment because I was really making strides in my running before that happened.

Happy New Year... Ugh!
Despite stubbing my toe I did manage to run a 10k a week later even though I had only run once between 1/1(when I hurt myself) and 1/8, which was just to gauge the pain factor. My fitness allowed me to have a course PR even though I was running in pain for most of the time. I have run the race 7 times and have never broken 40 minutes even though I had a personal best of 38 minutes at a different 10k. I was able to get into a little more of a training rhythm after that but I still needed to take it easy.

Reaching for a Personal Best!
This past weekend was the next race in the series which is a 15k, and I bested my record time by a full 2 minutes. I really surprised myself as I haven’t been able to run as much as I would have liked, but as expected quality workouts trump quantity. However I am looking forward to having both going forward this month as my toe seems about 90% healed!
